Taste of the Arts - August 25

This year, for the first time, our Religious Arts ministries will be at the annual Taste of the Arts event downtown. On Saturday, August 25, from 11:00am to 7:00pm we will have a table at the northwest corner of Freimann Square. We will be promoting our Gallery, Music and Theater.  Visitors will get to turn newspapers into crowns and try to make music with boomwhackers. Rev. Pitman’s 25th Celebrated

July 29, 2018

Rev. Ann Pitman's 25th anniversary of ordination was celebrated at July 29th services and during a McKay Hall reception. She is currently serving as Parish Associate for Pastoral Care, after interim pastorates at seven churches in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Missouri.  During the 11:00 sanctuary service she repeated the vows taken in 1993.

FPC Hosts Kansas Youth Group

July 22, 2018

A group of 30 youth and 10 adults from Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, Kansas, spent the night with us Saturday, July 21, (sleeping on the 3rd floor of the church) and then joined in our 11:00am worship service.  They were en route to Detroit for a week-long mission project where they will be doing rehab work with Motown Mission.  Rolling Hills also has an annual adult mission trip, returning next month to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Blessing of the Backpacks

On Sunday, August 12, all students and educational staff are invited to bring their backpacks, briefcases or tote bags to the worship service of their choice for a special blessing to begin the new school year surrounded in prayer.

Summer “A Day” Camps

July 16, 2018

The popular one-day summer programs have returned this year for children who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade.  The first was a "Science Camp" with a special presentation on whales June 26, with close to 30 attending. On July 29 kids built their own creations in "Build It/Make It Camp." Fort Wayne Open Streets, Sunday, July 15

Bike to church on July 15 and then enjoy the Fort Wayne Open Streets events nearby afterwards! If you're a biker or biking family, there is a group leaving Lakeside Park parking lot at 10 a.m. for a gentle 2 mile route to First Pres. There is bike parking at the Church inside the fenced in playground (playground will not be locked so you may want to bring a lock). Effective immediately, during weekday office hours (9:00am to 5:00pm) the main entrance into the church will be the Berry Street entrance next to the playground. All staff, members, visitors and deliveries will be directed to use the Berry Street entrance on the north side of the building. If you are unable to do stairs, then the McKay Foyer/Theater/Gallery entrance (west entrance) may be used. Jubilee Sunday

Fifty-year members of FPC were recognized at the 11:00am worship service and at a luncheon on April 29. Attaining the status this year were Ned Brenizer, Mary Beth Figel, Cleora Fox, Becky Kindel, Barbara McCants, David McCants, Ed Neufer, Peg Nollen, Walter Nollen, Geoff Paddock, and Christa Schloss. They bring to 140 the current number of living Jubilee-status members.

Additional Officers Elected

April 29, 2018

During a Congregational Meeting at the start of the April 29 service, four new church officers were elected. On the Board of Deacons, Janice Roddy will fill an unexpired two-year term and Karen Bash and Mary Winters will fill unexpired one-year terms.  David Bash was elected an Elder to fill a two-year term on Session.  New officers will be installed May 20.
